Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto announced on Thursday (15/5/2025) that the government will evaluate the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with Australia.

“We had a productive discussion with Prime Minister Albanese, and the CEPA is now due for its mandatory five-year review,” he said after attending a meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, as reported by antaranews.com

The agreement, signed in 2020, is entering its evaluation period.

Indonesia plans to add strategic issues such as critical minerals cooperation. Australia has lithium and manganese resources; Indonesia imports about 80,000 tons of lithium annually from Australia, processed in Morowali, Central Sulawesi. The review will also cover how critical minerals relate to Indonesia’s electric vehicle ecosystem.

Since the CEPA signing, bilateral trade has doubled. Australia supports Indonesia’s Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program and backs Indonesia’s accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

President Prabowo Subianto welcomed Prime Minister Albanese in Jakarta, expecting strengthened cooperation regionally and globally.
