Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Jakarta has introduced a new weekend attraction at Merdeka Palace, where the public can now witness the ceremonial "guard mounting" every Sunday at 8 am.
Previously held behind closed doors, the "Serah Terima Kawal Istana Merdeka" guard mounting features the Presidential Security Detail (Paspampres) performing choreographed drills, weapons inspections, and cavalry displays reminiscent of the famous tradition at London’s Buckingham Palace.
"The procession is a symbol of continuity in security duties and a symbol of state honor that must be maintained professionally," said Paspampres Commander Major General Edwin Adrian Sumantha on Sunday (8/2/2026), as reported by antaranews.com.
The ceremony involves 27 soldiers, including the Palace Guard, cavalry units, and a musical detachment. Dressed in full ceremonial regalia featuring golden weave details, the soldiers perform rifle maneuvers and the formal handover of the Palace Guard Flag.
Following the official proceedings, visitors are invited to interact and take photographs with the guards, a move intended to foster a closer connection between the military and the public.
