Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Thursday (28/3/20240 that no Indonesian citizens were harmed in the recent tragic collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, United States.
According to spokesperson Lalu Muhamad Iqbal, there have been no reports indicating Indonesian nationals as casualties in this incident, as reported by antaranews.com
The Indonesian Embassy in Washington DC closely monitored developments through collaboration with local authorities and Indonesian community networks in Baltimore, he said.
The collapse occurred on Tuesday, when a large cargo ship struck the Francis Scott Key Bridge. The ship, identified as the Singapore-flagged cargo vessel Dali, was en route from Baltimore to Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka.
Initial reports from the Baltimore City Fire Department suggested that at least seven individuals were in the vicinity of the collapsed bridge, with a large tractor-trailer also present at the time.
Following the incident, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott declared a local state of emergency, effective for 30 days.
Both the Singapore Transport Safety Investigation Bureau and the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) have dispatched investigative teams to the United States to aid in the inquiry into the collision.
US President Joe Biden has directed his administration to mobilize all resources necessary to expedite the reopening of the Baltimore port and the reconstruction of the bridge.
