Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. Puncak Jaya Sub-regional Police Chief Superintendent Kuswara confirmed that one person died during a violent clash between supporters of two candidates for the Puncak Jaya regency election in Mulia, Central Papua, on Wednesday (5/2/2025)).
The incident, which took place from morning to afternoon, also left 131 people injured and 30 homes burned.
“These clashes between supporters have occurred multiple times. We have urged both groups to refrain from further violence to prevent more casualties and property damage,” Chief Kuswara said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
The situation is now under control, with both groups dispersing and returning to their respective camps. The military and police personnel remain on alert to prevent further escalation.
The 2024 Regional Election in Puncak Jaya pitted Yuni Wonda-Mus Kogoya against Miren Kogoya-Wendi for the positions of Regent and Deputy Regent.
