Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. Herman Albert Yoku, a Papuan Customary Leader, condemned the recent actions of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB (Armed) that have resulted in the loss of somecivilians in several districts in Papua, on Sunday (24/9/2023).
"We all know that the KKB has committed numerous human rights violations by killing innocent people under the pretext of fighting for Papua's independence. However, not all Papuans desire independence," he said.
Yoku explained that only a small group of individuals with their personal interests use the symbol of Papua Merdeka, referring to Papua independence, as a tool to oppose the government. In contrast, the majority of Papuans expect to live in peace together within the Republic of Indonesia.
Some of the recent violations committed by KKB, he said, included the kidnapping of a Susi Air pilot in Nduga, the killing of civilians in Yahukimo, the murder of Papuan female activist in Lanny Jaya, as well as the recent shootings and arsons in the Bintang Mountains distric, deserved the attention from human rights advocacy groups.
Yoku raised his hope that KKB will immediately cease violent acts since it only harms fellow Papuans.
"As a Papua Customary Leader, I urge the community to continue supporting and maintaining peace in Papua to achieve a peaceful and prosperous Papua," he concluded.
