Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) has indicated the possibility of demoting several national training camp (Pelatnas) athletes following the country’s underwhelming performance at the 2025 Badminton Asia Championships (BAC) in Ningbo, China.
“There will likely be demotions at Pelatnas Cipayung—some athletes,” said PBSI Vice Chairman and Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Taufik Hidayat, on Tuesday (15/4/2025).
Indonesia failed to win a single title at the tournament, with the best results being semifinal finishes by mixed doubles pair Jafar Hidayatullah/Felisha Alberta Nathaniel and men’s doubles Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana.
Taufik admitted disappointment, saying that several key players underperformed significantly compared to their opponents. PBSI plans to review athlete performance and consider demotions after the 2025 Sudirman Cup (27 April to 1 May 2025), according to antaranews.com.
Demotion criteria will include tenure at Pelatnas, achievements, physical condition, and consistency—not short-term results.
“It’s not fair to judge athletes who just joined. Instead, we’ll focus on regenerating from the bottom,” Taufik added.
