inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Puan Maharani said that the visit of Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang to the parliamentary complex, Senayan could strengthen the country's relationship with the Indonesian people.

"Of course, his (Li Qiang's) visit to the Indonesian House of Representatives Building is a reflection of the Chinese government and also strengthens relations with the Indonesian people through their representatives in the Indonesian House of Representatives," said Puan when giving a statement after meeting PM Li Qiang at the parliamentary complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Sunday.

Puan said that PM Li Qiang's visit could strengthen diplomatic relations between the two countries, which this year celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations since 1950.

She also said that cooperation between Indonesia and China has long been established since the Asia Africa Conference 70 years ago or in 1955.

"At that time, Indonesia and China together wanted to free developing countries in Asia-Africa to gain their independence," she said.

According to Puan, Indonesia's relationship with China did not only start with the current government, but since the first President of the Republic of Indonesia, Soekarno, established a friendship with former Chinese President Mao Zedong.

"Hopefully this relationship can get better, closer, and of course increase over time for the welfare of the people in both countries," she said.

Puan Maharani reminded President Prabowo Subianto's government to always maintain relations with countries at the regional level, such as China.

"It is solely to maintain stability throughout the region in supporting all existing situations, so that peace always occurs and the welfare of the people can always run well," she said.
