inp.polri.go.id - Labuan Bajo. The Marine Security Unit of West Manggarai Sub-regional Police has successfully arrested a man with the initials of L (39) for smuggling thousands of detonators and strongly suspected of using the explosives for fishing in the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) waters.
“He is a seller who came straight from Sulawesi. The detonators were smuggled with merchant ships," said Head of the Marine Security Unit, Police Senior Inspector Dimas Yusuf Fadhillah Rahmanto.
Dimas says that the police arrested L after a report from the public for his suspicious activities. After an investigation process for two months, police finally arrested the man and determined him as the criminal.
During the search, police found the 100 detonator sticks stored in a small brown bag. According to L, the detonators would be assembled into 1,000 bottles of fish bomb fuses.
"He has been doing this illegal act for the past three years. However, he said this is his first time operating in Labuan Bajo," explained Dimas.
The police suspect that the perpetrator would sell the detonators to fishermen for Rp. 8 million per box.
As a result of his actions, L is threatened with a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, life imprisonment, or the death penalty in accordance with Article 1 Paragraph (1) of Emergency Law Number 12 of 1951 concerning Firearms and Explosives.
