inp.polri.go.id - North Kalimantan. Personnel from the North Kalimantan Regional Police's Marine and Air Police Directorate  conducted a search and rescue (SAR) operation in the waters around Tanjung Tiram to Muara Sekatak on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at 2:00 PM. This operation followed a report of the disappearance of Umar (54), a casual laborer from West Tarakan.

According to a family report, on July 6, 2025, the victim entered a fishpond with his son, Ikshan Setiadi, to poison the weeds on the embankment. Umar was left alone while his son continued to a private fishpond in Paspayau. From July 9 to July 19, the victim's wife could not contact him. A search effort by the family was launched on July 19, but the victim was still missing. The victim's boat was also missing, while his cell phone and personal belongings were still in the fishpond hut.

Four SAR personnel were deployed to conduct the search. Using a KP (Submarine Patrol Vehicle) SEA RIDER, personnel searched five coordinate points spanning the waters from Muara Tanjung Tiram to Sekatak. They also inspected the victim's fishpond area and coordinated with Afki, relatives, and neighbors of Umar's fishpond. Evidence, including a fishing rod and the victim's pants, was secured and handed over to the funeral home in Tarakan.

Local residents and several fishermen strongly suspect that the victim was likely attacked by a crocodile, given the chronology and the discovery of the victim's belongings, which were separated from the body.

Baharudin, the uncle of the victim's wife, submitted a report to the North Kalimantan Regional Police's Marine Police Directorate Office for further investigation. The search is ongoing, but has yet to yield any results.
