"As a gift for workers today, I will immediately form the National Labor Welfare Council," said President Prabowo in front of thousands of workers present.
President Prabowo Subianto said that the National Labor Welfare Council is a body that will involve labor figures from all over Indonesia.
This council, he continued, will be tasked with providing advice to the President regarding improvements to laws and regulations that are considered not in favor of workers.
In addition, President Prabowo also emphasized his support for the proposal to eliminate the outsourcing system that has been in the spotlight of workers.
He said that the Workers' Welfare Council will also study in depth the transition mechanism towards eliminating the system, while still considering the investment climate.
Other measures that were also announced included the formation of a Lay-off Task Force to anticipate unilateral termination of employment, as well as the acceleration of discussions on the Domestic Workers Protection Bill and the maritime and fisheries sector protection bill.
