Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto held a teleconference with leaders of four ASEAN countries to discuss a coordinated response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s reciprocal tariff policy. 

The president’s media team said in a statement on Saturday (5/4/2025) that the call included Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.

In a separate statement, Prime Minister Anwar said the leaders shared views on Trump’s tariff move and agreed to align their positions. 

“We discussed a joint response to the U.S. reciprocal tariffs and agreed to follow up through our respective economic ministries,” he posted on social media, as quoted by antaranews.com.

ASEAN economic ministers are expected to meet next week to finalize the region’s collective stance.

President Trump announced a blanket 10% tariff starting Saturday, followed by country-specific rates from 9 April 2025. Indonesia faces a 32% tariff, while rates for other ASEAN nations range from 10% (Singapore) to 49% (Cambodia).
