Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  President Prabowo Subianto announced the formation of a National Labor Welfare Council during the May Day celebration on Thursday (1/5/2025) at the National Monument (Monas), Jakarta, as a step toward phasing out the controversial outsourcing system in Indonesia.

“This council is a gift for workers. It will include labor leaders from across the country and advise the President on labor-related legislation and regulations,” he told thousands of workers in attendance, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The president reaffirmed support for abolishing outsourcing but emphasized the need to balance workers’ rights with investor confidence. 

“We want to end outsourcing, but we must also be realistic. Without investment, there will be no factories, and no jobs,” he cautioned.

Additional measures include a Task Force on Termination of Employment  to prevent unjust layoffs and  acceleration of legislation for the Domestic Workers Protection Bill and Maritime and Fisheries Workers Protection Bill.

Labor union leaders, including Said Iqbal and Jumhur Hidayat, welcomed the announcement with enthusiasm.
