inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers stated that until now efforts to repatriate Indonesian citizens (WNI) who work in overseas online gambling networks are continuing.
"What’s important is how to take them back here immediately to Indonesia for those who have gone abroad," said Deputy Minister for Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers Dzulfikar Ahmadi Tawalla on Thursday (11/21/2024).
Lately, many Indonesians are working abroad after being lured by the promise of large incomes. However, upon arrival in their destination country, they were hired instead to operate online gambling sites.
In light of this issue, since the first day of his assignment as the Deputy Minister of Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection, Dzulfikar has been very intensively coordinating with the local police and Ministry of Foreign Affairs to resolve the issue.
"Most of the reports are from Cambodia and Myanmar," explained Deputy Minister Dzulfikar.
He said that Indonesian citizens who work in overseas online gambling networks generally leave illegally. The government only finds out about the existence of these Indonesian citizens after they make contact with their families in Indonesia.
