Inp.polri.go.id - Pekanbaru.  Riau Regional Police are investigating an international drug network after arresting two couriers carrying 44 kilograms of methamphetamine. 

The suspects, identified as WS (32) and AH (29), were arrested in Pekanbaru last week with the drugs hidden in two black bags inside their car.

“These two suspects acted as couriers. We are now developing the case to trace where the drugs were headed and the major network behind them,” said Riau Police Narcotics Director Senior Superintendent Putu Yudha Prawira on Monday (26/8/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

The arrests followed a week of surveillance, during which officers tracked the suspects’ vehicle. The couriers attempted to flee but were caught at a traffic light in Bukit Raya District. Police seized 44 packs of meth weighing about 44 kilograms.

The suspects admitted they were promised Rp 10 million each upon delivery. They face life imprisonment or the death penalty under Indonesia’s narcotics law. Some of the evidence will be sent to the forensics lab for examination.
