Inp.polri.go.id - Pekanbaru. Riau Regional Police have launched an investigation into a massive land fire that has burnt 100 hectares in Sei Gajah Induk, Kubu District, Rokan Hilir Regency for five consecutive days.
“We will summon the village head and related parties to identify who first cleared the land. This is a serious matter,” said Riau Police Chief Inspector General Herry Heryawan during an on-site inspection on Sunday (20/7/2025) , as quoted by antaranews.com
Firefighting efforts continue, involving joint teams from the police, the military, and the disaster management agency. Authorities warned they may request aerial water bombing from the Air Force or private firms if fires persist.
Chief Herry emphasized firm legal action against perpetrators and called for education and collaboration to prevent future forest fires.
On Saturday, meteorologists recorded 294 hotspots across Riau, with 175 in Rokan Hilir alone.
