Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Arif Havas Oegroseno explained on Saturday (19/7/2025)) that Indonesia’s decision to join BRICS does not indicate an anti-Western stance.
Speaking during a presidential communications event, he emphasized that Indonesia’s foreign policy remains “free and active,” not aligned or antagonistic toward any power bloc.
“Joining BRICS doesn’t mean we’re against the West. Just look at India, which is a BRICS founder and a key partner in the U.S.-led Quad. We have good relations with both,” said Deputy Minister Arif Havas, as quoted by antaranews.com.
Indonesia’s BRICS membership, he added, allows the country to push for fairer global standards — including in sustainable palm oil — and to engage in vital discussions on critical mineral resources with other developing nations.
The deputy minister also reiterated that Indonesia’s independent and active foreign policy aims to build partnerships with all countries while advancing domestic and global interests.
