Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs confirmed that World App, linked to Sam Altman’s Worldcoin, has collected retinal data from over 500,000 Indonesian users since 2021.
Director General of Digital Space Supervision, Alexander Sabar, said on Friday (9/5/2025) the app had obtained a valid Electronic System Operator Registration (TDPSE), making it subject to regulatory supervision.
The Ministry recently summoned World App’s developer, Tools for Humanity (TFH), for clarification regarding its biometric practices, which included offering cash incentives for retinal scans.
The ministry is now reviewing TFH’s privacy policy and assessing technical risks related to user data. TFH has temporarily stopped all scan activities in Indonesia, and Kemkomdigi has frozen the app’s TDPSE.
“If risks of data breaches are found, we will take firm action to protect personal data,” Alexander said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
A final decision on the app’s future operations in Indonesia will be announced following internal analysis and regulatory evaluation.
