Inp.polri.go.id - Dubai. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo emphasized that Indonesia needs investment exceeding $1 trillion to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060 during the COP28 Climate Change Summit in Dubai on Friday (1/12/2023).
The president outlined Indonesia's commitment to intense efforts in achieving carbon neutrality by 2060, promoting robust economic growth, significant reductions in poverty and inequality, and the continuous creation of job opportunities, antaranews.com reported.
President Jokowi acknowledged that achieving net-zero emissions is beyond the capacity of developing countries alone. Hence, Indonesia invites collaboration from bilateral partners, private investments, philanthropic support, and assistance from friendly nations.
"We offer credible and innovative financing platforms, including carbon exchanges, energy transition mechanisms, green bonds, and environmental fund management through result-based payments,' he said.
Moreover, President Jokowi asserted the need for multilateral development banks to enhance low-interest financing capacities for energy transition. He said that fulfilling the Paris Agreement goals and achieving net-zero emissions requires resolving global funding challenges collectively.
President Widodo expressed confidence in collaborative and inclusive efforts, emphasizing concrete actions to produce tangible results.
Indonesia has made strides in carbon emission reduction, boasting a 42% decrease between 2020 and 2022 compared to the 2015 business-as-usual projections. Jokowi highlighted ongoing efforts to improve forestry and other land-use management (FOLU) and expedite the transition to renewable energy sources.
