11 Dead as Minibus Collides with Probowangi Train in Lumajang

Inp.polri.go.id - Lumajang. In a devastating incident on Sunday night, a minibus collided with the Probowangi train at an unguarded railway crossing, resulting in 11 fatalities and four others injured in Lumajang, East Java.
The Director of the Indonesian Railawy Company (KAI), Didiek Hartantyo, expressed condolences and regret over the traffic accident. He clarified that all 11 casualties were occupants of the minibus, while all passengers on the Probowangi train remained unharmed.
Due to the incident, the Probowangi train experienced a delay of 13 minutes.
KAI urged relevant authorities to assess and enhance the safety by providing adequate safety equipment such as signs, lighting, barriers, and crossing guards in their respective jurisdictions. Director Didiek underscored that road owners, both at the central and local levels, should evaluate the safety of level crossings and take necessary measures to mitigate risks.
As per Minister of Transportation Regulation No. 94 of 2018, the responsibility for managing and handling level crossings between railway tracks and roads lies with the road owner. The regulation designates the Minister for national roads, Governors for provincial roads, and Mayors/Regents for roads at the district/city and village levels.
