A total of 1,309 officers have been deployed to secure the Palestine solidarity demonstration organized by the Indonesian People’s Alliance for Palestine and the Palestine and Yemen Solidarity Committee (KOSPY) in front of the U.S. Embassy on Jalan Merdeka Selatan, Central Jakarta on Saturday (3/8/2024).
Central Jakarta Metropolitan Sub-regional Police Chief, Senior Superintendent Susatyo P. Condro said that the security forces include personnel from the Jakarta Metro Jaya Regional Police, Central Jakarta Police, the military and the Jakarta administration.
They were stationed at various points around the U.S. Embassy. Traffic diversions around Jalan Merdeka Selatan and other areas were adjusted based on the crowd size.
Chief Susatyo emphasized that security personnel should act persuasively, avoid provocation, prioritize negotiation and humanitarian service, and ensure safety. He has instructed his officers not to carry firearms and to treat demonstrators with respect.
He also urged the rally field coordinators and speakers to conduct their demonstrations peacefully and respectfully, avoiding any acts of violence or damage to public property.
