Inp.polri.go.id - Palu. A 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck Buol Regency in Central Sulawesi, early on Saturday morning (7/12/2024), damaging 17 homes and several public facilities, according to the Central Sulawesi Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD).
"Assessment results show 14 homes sustained minor damage, while three suffered moderate damage in Lakuan Buol Village, Lakea District," said Andi Sembiring, the Head of Emergency and Logistics at BPBD Central Sulawesi, as reported by antaranews.com .
Public facilities affected include a mosque, a community health post, a local health community center building, and the local market. Immediate logistical aid is being prioritized for affected residents, while BPBD continues coordinating with local authorities for relief and recovery efforts.
No casualties were reported, but residents remain vigilant against potential aftershocks. BPBD teams, supported by the military and police personnel, have been assisting with cleanup and repairs.
The earthquake, occurring at 1.14 am AM WITA, was classified as a shallow quake caused by subduction activity in the Sulawesi Sea. BMKG reported an epicenter 73 km northwest of Buol at a depth of 21 km. The quake, felt in Buol and Toli-Toli, posed no tsunami risk
