inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) is emphasizing the reintegration of convicted terrorists through skills training as part of the rehabilitation process before they return to society.
While receiving a working visit from the Indonesian National Narcotics Agency (BNN) at the BNPT office, BNPT Head Commissioner General Eddy Hartono stated that this approach is being implemented to equip convicted terrorists with practical skills they can use after serving their sentences.
"One model for rehabilitating convicted terrorists using the skills training approach is being implemented at the Class IIB Sentul Prison," said Eddy on Tuesday (4/14/2026).
On that occasion, Eddy directly demonstrated the rehabilitation process the BNPT is conducting for convicted terrorists. He explained that the majority of inmates at the Class IIB Sentul Prison are convicted terrorists serving their remaining sentences of approximately one to two years.
He further assessed the BNN visit as a concrete demonstration of inter-agency synergy in addressing national security issues.
"It is an honor and pride for the BNPT to have the Head of the BNN and his entourage present. This demonstrates that synergy and collaboration are paramount," he said.
Meanwhile, BNN Head Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto expressed his appreciation for the development model implemented by BNPT. He believes this approach is capable of changing the mindset of inmates by increasing productivity.
"We see how extraordinary the treatment given by BNPT is. They not only detain them, but also train them in soft skills so that upon their release they will be ready to return to the society and to be more productive and hopefully prevent them from falling back into crime," explained Suyudi.
The collaboration between BNPT and BNN is expected to be further strengthened to support efforts to create a safe and resilient Indonesia from the threats of terrorism and narcotics.
