Inp.polri.go.id - Pidie. As many as 196 Rohingya immigrants found themselves stranded on the shores of Pantai Kemukiman Kalee, Gampong Batee, Muara Tiga District, Pidie Regency, Aceh.
Confirmed by Pidie Police Chief Superintendent Imam Asfali, seven individuals among the group managed to escape upon landing. "Yes, and our team is currently on-site for assessment," he said on Tuesday (14/11/2023).
Chief Imam explained about ongoing efforts to document the situation, with coordination underway with the Immigration Office and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) representation in the shelter.
"This collaborative action ensures expedited humanitarian aid," he was quoted by antaranews.com as saying.
Secretary of Panglima Laot Pidie, Marfian, said that the Rohingya immigrants arrived on the beach using a large boat around 11:30 AM.
"The local community is directing them to a designated beach location and providing makeshift security," he explained.
On another note, Panglima Laot Aceh, Miftach Tjut Adek, detailed the composition of the stranded Rohingya, totaling 196 individuals. The breakdown includes 61 adult males, 69 adult females, 27 girls, 32 boys, with seven individuals currently missing.
"As information, Panglima Laot is the official traditional maritime institution overseeing fishermen in Aceh. All maritime issues in Aceh fall under the jurisdiction of this institution," Miftach said.
