Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. In a recent statement, Indonesian National Police (INP) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo emphasised the primary responsibility of the INP and the Indonesian Military to maintain unity within society, regardless of who is elected president in the upcoming 2024 general election.
"The primary duty of the police, along with the military, is to maintain the integrity of society, the nation, unity and cohesion. This is crucial no matter who the president is," he said after attending the Bintang Yudha Dharma Utama award ceremony at the Vice Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday (14/11/2023).
The INP Chief stressed the importance of maintaining unity and cohesion as Indonesia faces both domestic and global challenges, calling on all levels of society to unite in the face of various challenges, emphasising the need to overcome internal and global obstacles together.
Commenting on the upcoming elections, he urged the public to remain united, even if there are differences in support for the presidential and vice-presidential candidates.
Regardless of who is elected president, General Sigit asserted that they will be tasked with responsibly navigating global dynamics for the sake of the nation. "Our priority is to maintain unity. Diversity is essential - Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, Pancasila - and that's what we must preserve together," he said.
To reinforce this commitment to unity, he revealed that he has been touring the country, delivering messages and observing peaceful election declarations.
