Inp.polri.go.id - Palembang. The South Sumatra Regional Police, under its Traffic Directorate, has observed a sharp rise in violations caught by Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE) cameras to nearly 2 million infractions in a mere two-month span. Senior Superintendent  I Made Agus Prasatya, the Head of the South Sulawesi Police Traffic Directorate, disclosed that ETLE cameras nabbed 1,745,121 violations in January and February 2024. "Compared to last year's tally of 737,677 violations in 2023, we're already nearing the 2 million mark in just the first two months of 2024," he said on Friday (3/1/2024). Chief Agus explained that this surge followed extensive ETLE upgrades, engaging all Traffic Units across South Sulawesi, covering all districts and cities. "The substantial rise in recorded violations underscores the successful and uniform implementation of ETLE across all police offices in South Sulawesi," he asserted. Top-ranking violations include failure to wear seatbelts, followed by helmetless riding, triple riding on motorcycles, and driving against traffic. These infractions significantly heighten the risk of traffic accidents, leading to severe injuries and fatalities. (mg/fa/pr/nm)
