Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, called on the Indonesian National Police (INP) to strengthen security measures in transportation as Ramadan approaches, anticipating increased travel during mudik (exodus), the tradition of traveling to one's hometown, and return traffic after the annual exodus.
He highlighted the need for heightened vigilance, especially on less-monitored routes like sea journeys, prone to accidents due to rough seas, heavy rains, storms, and the La Nina weather phenomenon, antaranews.com reported.
Highlighting the importance of safety standards, Minister Tito stressed the necessity of life jackets for all passengers on vessels facing turbulent waters.
"I strongly urge, and will communicate with all local authorities. I've already issued a directive requiring all ships navigating challenging waters to provide life jackets, such as body vests, for passengers," he asserted.
In addition to maritime concerns, Minister Tito warned against potential challenges in air travel, including high ticket prices.
He noted that increased airfares could trigger inflation in other goods, especially during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, affecting essential items like rice and meat.
To address these issues, Minister Tito called for coordinated efforts between INP, government ministries, and local administrations to manage inflation effectively.
"While some regions excel in controlling inflation, others struggle," he explained.
Minister Tito also emphasized the importance of unity between Polri and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) to ensure public safety.
"When the military and the police stand united, peace is guaranteed. This unity represents a formidable strength for our nation," he said.
