Jayapura - The Papua Provincial Government plans to form a wholesale cooperative in 2021 with the aim that the products sold in cooperatives are cheap, practical, and easy for the public to enjoy. This was said by the Regional Secretary of Papua Province Doren Wakerwa, at the Central and Regional Planning Coordination Meeting for Cooperatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises of Papua Province, in Jayapura, recently. This policy was taken considering that the permits for establishing cooperatives were getting easier. Previously, at least 20 people had to be established, now only nine people are sufficient. "Likewise with the free licensing fees for micro business actors. In fact, in terms of taxation, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises are also facilitated, and there are tax incentives. There are also assistance services for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises”, said Doren. Secretary of the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Prof. Rully Indrawan welcomed this idea. "President Jokowi has also said that in 2021, the focus will no longer be on infrastructure but on the cooperatives of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises", explained Rully. Therefore, Rully invites each region to get ready to carry out the function of mentoring Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, especially in Papua which has its own commodity such as sago. Meanwhile, the Head of the Papua Province Industry, Trade, Small and Medium Business Cooperatives and Manpower Office Omah Laiani Ladamay revealed several obstacles in developing cooperatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in Papua. "We have data on messy cooperatives, weak assistance, low production capacity, and problems with market certainty," said Omah. Omah hopes that Papua must have a strong and large cooperative so that Small and Medium Enterprises products can compete in the market.
