Inp.polri.go.id - Banda Aceh. The Sabang Immigration Office has confirmed that the 219 Rohingya people who arrived at Ujong Kareung beach in Aceh are legal refugees. Officials said that no illegal immigrants were part of the Rohingya boat people.
Mirza Dwitri Patria, Head of Intelligence and Immigration Enforcement at the Sabang Immigration Office, asserted their role in collecting data and keeping watch. He confirmed that all 219 individuals are refugees, and there was no sign of illegal immigration.
"In this group, there are no illegal immigrants. Our concern is with illegal immigrants, like foreigners entering without visas. Right now, everyone arriving in Sabang are refugees, all Rohingya," he told antaranews.com on Wednesday (23/11/2023).
The 219 Rohingya people arrived on Tuesday, using a wooden boat to land at Ujong Kareung beach in Sabang's Sukajaya area.
Following regulations in Presidential Regulation No. 125/2016 on refugees, UNHCR and local administration will manage the refugees. Mirza confirmed UNHCR's presence, highlighting their ongoing work to document and verify the refugees.
"Now UNHCR is here. We're documenting, and if they're not refugees, the Immigration Department will handle it. If they are refugees, UNHCR and the local administration will take care of it," he explained.
