Inp.polri.go.id - Tarakan. The authorities have intercepted 23 kilograms of methamphetamine, known as "sabu-sabu," from three Filipino citizens following a tip-off regarding drug smuggling into the North Kalimantan region. The joint team comprising of the Tarakan Customs, the North Kalimantan National Narcotics Agency (BNNP), and the Naval Main Base of the Indonesian Navy  XIII seized the drugs in the waters of Pangkalan Tias, Bulungan Regency, antaranews.com reported. Brigadier General Rudi Hartono, the Head of BNNP in North Kalimantan, disclosed on Wednesday (8/11/2023) that the suspects were arrested along with the confiscated 23 packets of methamphetamine concealed in two nets. Investigations suggested that the methamphetamine was transported from Semporna, Malaysia, to Indonesian waters in North Kalimantan. The suspects covered a distance of 120 nautical miles before being intercepted. "All three are Filipino nationals residing in Malaysia. Investigations are ongoing to determine the origin and destination of the seized methamphetamine," General Rudi explained. The individuals were believed to have been acting as couriers under the orders of an individual. The investigation has been underway to unveil further details, including the promised compensation from the said individual, which is under scrutiny by law enforcement authorities. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
