Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A fire at the Al Mawaddah Islamic boarding school in Ciganjur, South Jakarta, left 23 students aged 13 to 17 suffering from breathing difficulties on Wednesday (10/12/2025).
“23 students experienced shortness of breath. Fourteen were referred to Andhika General Hospital, while nine others were taken to Ali Sibroh Malisi Hospital for immediate medical care,” said South Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) platoon commander Muhammad Nur, as quoted by antaranews.com,
Several others, including four women and one man, also suffered respiratory distress and were treated on-site by the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI). The blaze broke out at around 2.30 pm on the ground floor of the school building and was reported by nearby residents.
A total of 66 firefighters from the South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency were deployed to extinguish the flames, bringing the situation under control by 4.30 pm. Authorities said that the blaze was likely caused by a stove on the ground floor of the building.
