inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police is preparing to secure a demonstration to be held by the University of Indonesia Student Executive Board (BEM UI) at the Indonesian National Police (INP) Headquarters in South Jakarta this afternoon. This protest was driven by the death of AT (14), a student at MTsN 1 Southeast Maluku.
"Security for the public expression of opinion, which will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, at approximately 1:00 p.m. after Friday prayers, will be provided by student elements. The Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police has deployed approximately 3,093 personnel," explained the Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police, Senior Superintendent Budi Hermanto, on Friday (2/27/2026).
According to him, this security preparation is crucial as the location of the protest at the INP Headquarters is close to several vital national objects such as the PLN office, busy markets, and public activities. The police also ensure that all public expression activities, including routine community activities, can proceed smoothly.
Budi explained that demonstrations are a constitutional right protected by law. However, ethical standards must still be maintained, especially now during the holy month of Ramadan.
"You can express your opinions, and we guarantee your rights to express your opinion. We emphasize that INP and the Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police guarantee that the opinions expressed by these student elements will be properly conveyed, and they are protected by law. We guarantee that," he explained.
