Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) revealed that 3.3 million Indonesians are addicted to narcotics, reflecting a deepening national crisis beyond mere statistics.
“This isn’t just about numbers, it’s a massive market exploited by criminal syndicates,” said BNN Chief Commissioner General Marthinus Hukom during an anti-drug event in Garut, West Java, on Wednesday (9/7/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
The estimated drug trade reaches Rp 500 trillion annually, including state costs to incarcerate over 200,000 drug users. Over 52% of inmates are drug offenders.
Chief Hukom emphasized that 90% of narcotics enter Indonesia via coastal smuggling, particularly along southern West Java.
