US Embassy Recognizes North Sumatra Police's Wildlife Protection Efforts

The United States Embassy, represented by Special Agent of Diplomatic Security Service  Sue Wells, presented an award on Tuesday (24/10/2023) to the North Sumatra Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Agung Setya Imam Effendi, for his achievement in combatting crimes against protected wildlife in the North Sumatra region. Chief Agung  expressed his hope that the good relations would continue to thrive in the future, particularly in the joint effort to protect endangered species and reintroduce them to their natural habitats. "The North Sumatra Regional Police shares the same passion for wildlife conservation, especially for species that are on the brink of extinction,"  he said while addressing the award. Special Agent Wells conveyed the U.S. government's appreciation for the North Sumatra Regional Police's efforts in uncovering cases of crimes against protected wildlife during her visit to the North Sumatra Regional Police headquarters. The Chief said that combating the illegal trade of protected wildlife has been a pressing issue that must be addressed. Therefore, both parties intend to continue their cooperation in uncovering and prosecuting such cases, ensuring that the rule of law and justice prevail, with the ultimate goal of preventing these crimes from happening in the first place. This recognition from the United States Embassy reflects the dedication of the North Sumatra Regional Police in preserving wildlife and their commitment to environmental conservation.
