Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Directorate General of Corrections has transferred 82 high-risk inmates from prisons in Bali and East Java to the maximum-security island prison of Nusakambangan Island, Central Java, officials confirmed on Wednesday (24/9/2025).

“We received 82 inmates at around 2 pm, 55 from East Java and 27 from Bali,” said Irfan, the regional coordinator of Nusakambangan Island and the Head of Batu Prison, in a written statement, as quoted by antaranews.com.

As many as 25 are placed at Karang Anyar super-maximum prison, 30 at Pasir Putih, 15 at Gladakan maximum prison, and 12 at Ngaseman. Authorities said the move followed assessments showing the inmates required tighter security and stricter rehabilitation programs.

The operation was conducted under heavy escort involving corrections officers, police, and regional prison authorities. Officials stressed the transfers are part of an ongoing campaign to eliminate narcotics networks inside Indonesian prisons and strengthen inmate management.
