inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Transportation is preparing 841 ships with a capacity of approximately 3.2 million passengers to support the smooth operation of maritime transportation during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday period on various national routes.
"Specifically for Eid al-Fitr maritime transportation operations, the government has prepared 841 ships with a total capacity of approximately 3.2 million passengers," said Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi, Thursday (3/5/2026).
Dudy stated that the preparation of hundreds of ships is part of the government's effort to ensure the readiness of the fleet and port services to support smooth travel during the Eid al-Fitr homecoming and return travel period.
According to Dudy, maritime transportation plays a strategic role, especially in travelling to island regions, and remote, outermost, and border areas.
Dudy has prepared concrete steps to ensure adequate services. Seaworthiness tests have been conducted on vessels, including passenger ships, ferry boats, speedboats, traditional vessels, and tourist boats.
"We must ensure that sea transportation services during Eid al-Fitr are safe, secure, comfortable, orderly, and smooth," said Dudy.
Furthermore, as a form of support for the community and as an economic stimulus, the government is reintroducing the free ticket program, with a quota of over 66,000 passengers.
Registration opens on March 6, 2026, with departures between March 11 and April 6, 2026. The government is also offering a 30 percent fare discount for all economy class Public Service Obligation (PSO) routes operated by PT Pelni, covering over 445,000 tickets.
"This measure is expected to ease the burden on the public and support a more equitable distribution of the homecoming flow," said Dudy.
