inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Special Criminal Investigation Directorate of the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Regional Police has uncovered suspected illegal cigarette distribution in four regencies by confiscating 9,271 packs of cigarettes suspected of violating trade legality requirements.

The Director of Special Criminal Investigation of the NTT Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Hans Rachmatulloh Irawan, stated that the suspected distribution was discovered in Ende, Nagekeo, Ngada, and West Manggarai Regencies.

"The distribution of goods that do not meet licensing requirements is a legal violation that has the potential to harm the public, the state, and law-abiding businesses. Therefore, we will continue to monitor and take action against any violations in the trade sector," explained Hans on Tuesday (7/14/2026).

He stated that the disclosure demonstrates the police's commitment to protecting the public while creating a healthy trade climate in accordance with laws and regulations.

Hans explained that the investigation was conducted based on information reports and an investigation warrant issued by the NTT Regional Police's Special Criminal Investigation Directorate.

During June 2026, the police team inspected several kiosks and shops in Ende, Nagekeo, Ngada, and West Manggarai Regencies suspected of selling cigarettes without complying with legal trade permit requirements.

The field operation was led by Police First Inspector Muhammad Yuzakky, along with personnel from the NTT Regional Police's Special Criminal Investigation Directorate I.

The inspection resulted in the confiscation of 9,271 packs or 185,420 cigarettes suspected of lacking legal trade permits.

Based on the investigation, the business actors obtained the cigarettes from a salesperson from West Manggarai Regency. Investigators are also coordinating with Customs and Excise for further handling, in accordance with their respective agencies' authority.

"We will continue our investigation to trace the distribution channels and identify those responsible for the distribution of these allegedly illegal cigarettes. Law enforcement will be carried out professionally, proportionally, and in accordance with applicable regulations," said the Director of Special Criminal Investigation.
