inp.polri.go.id - Medan. An explosion occurred in the luxury Grand Polonia Medan housing complex, Medan Polonia District, Medan City, on Monday afternoon (July 20, 2026).

At least five houses were damaged by the explosion, with the house at the source of the explosion suffering severe damage.

Medan Polonia Subdistrict Head, Alfi Pane, said the incident occurred at 4:00 PM WIB.

"The incident occurred around 4:00 PM WIB. One house exploded, but surrounding houses were also affected," said Alfi.

Alfi continued that the houses affected by the explosion were located on the right and left sides of the explosion source, with at least four to five houses affected.

"Around four to five houses were affected in total. A canopy collapsed, a zinc roof was damaged, and several walls were breached by the explosion," Alfi continued.

The exact cause of the explosion is still unknown. Police and related teams are still investigating the explosion at the luxury housing complex.

Alfi also admitted that he has not yet received information regarding the identity of the owner of the house at the center of the explosion. Furthermore, his team is still awaiting official data regarding possible casualties.

"We don't know yet whether there are casualties or not. Earlier, information suggested there might still be people inside the house, but we are awaiting the results of the officers' investigation," he said.
