inp.polri.go.id - The Aceh Police have named an inmate of the Class II A Banda Aceh Correctional Institution (Lapas), with the initials TD, as a suspect in the alleged case of spreading the video of the burning of the Red and White flag on social media.
Head of Public Relations of the Aceh Police, Commissioner Winardy said the suspect was from Pidie Jaya, Aceh, and is a convict in drugs abuse case.
"TD was named as a suspect for spreading the video of the burning of the Red and White flag on social media. That video was considered hazardous and could cause unrest and division in the community," said Winardy in Banda Aceh.
TD was suspected of spreading the video of the burning of the red and white flag through his Facebook account during the commemoration of the 77th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia, Wednesday (17/08/22).
The video of the burning of the flag was first uploaded to a Facebook account allegedly belonging to someone with the initials NU on the same day. Subsequently, the burning video was re-uploaded by TD's Facebook account
"As a result of the investigation, NU is known to be from Pidie, Aceh, who received political asylum and is now domiciled in Horsens, Denmark," said the Head of Public Relations of the Aceh Police.
Based on the results of the investigation, TD deliberately spread the video of the burning of the flag because he refused to commemorate the 77th Anniversary of Indonesian Independence and wanted Aceh to be separated from the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
TD is suspected of intentionally spread the video which aimed at to cause feelings of hatred or hostility to certain individuals and/or community groups based on ethnicity, religion, race, and inter-group (SARA).
For his actions, TD was charged with Article 45a Paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 28 Paragraph (2) of Law No. 11 of 2008, which was changed to Law of Republic of Indonesia 19 of 2016 concerning electronic information and transactions.
"The maximum penalty is six years in prison and a fine of Rp1 billion. In this case, the police have secured evidence, such as a mobile phone, Facebook account, and video of the arson. The suspect TD is currently still in the Banda Aceh prison," concluded Commissioner Winardy.
