Head of Public Relations Department of the Papua Police Senior Superintendent  Ahmad Musthofa Kamal that Papua region was safe and conducive during the Cartenz Lilin Operation that was held from December 23rd, 2022 to January 2nd, 2023. Data showed that there were five traffic accidents, which was an increase from previous year of four accidents, during the operation.  In addition, there was one fatality and three accident victims with major injuries and four with minor injuries reported, he said. For the material loss,  it was recorded at Rp48,000,000, which was lower compared to last year’s operation ofRp75,000,000. The spokesperson said that Jayapura was safe and peaceful after the New Year’s Eve while residents continued their regular activities. “The celebration New Year’s Eve in Jayapura City was going well and smoothly, same goes for its traffic. However, we appeals  the community to keep maintaining a conducive situation in the area,” he said. (fz/hn/um)
