Inp.polri.go.id - Denpasar. Southeast Asian prosecutors convened in Bali for the 2nd Consultation Meeting aimed at establishing an entity to bolster the professionalism of ASEAN prosecutors and ensure equitable law enforcement.

Attorney General S.T. Burhanuddin highlighted on Thursday (25/4/2024) the entity's potential to enhance cross-border law enforcement, tackling transnational crimes like human trafficking, drugs, money laundering, and corruption.

This initiative, born from the need to strengthen cooperation among ASEAN prosecutors, emerged about a year ago during the inaugural consultation in Lam Thaen, Thailand.

The "Bang Saen Initiative 2023" agreement laid the groundwork for exploring the establishment of an entity for ASEAN prosecutors, facilitating information sharing and legal collaboration to uphold legal supremacy in the ASEAN region.

Attorney general Burhanuddin urged commitment to making the meeting a catalyst for synergy and coordination among ASEAN prosecution agencies, emphasizing the importance of combating crime transcending legal and jurisdictional barriers amid globalization.

The 2nd Consultation Meeting was attended by senior prosecutors such as the Phillipines Attorney General Benedicto Malcotento and Thai Deputy Attorney General Jumphon Phansumrit as well as delegates from various ASEAN countries and international observers, highlighting the significance of regional collaboration in law enforcement.
