Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. ThenAsmat Sub-regional police have arrested a suspect accused of killing a police officer in a machete attack in Agats, Asmat District, Papua on Sunday (2/11/2025). 

The victim, First Brigadier Abraham Eliaser Yarisetouw, was responding to a disturbance report when he was assaulted by a drunk man armed with a machete.

“The suspect, identified as Simon Ufi, was arrested shortly after the incident and is now under investigation,” said Papua Regional Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Cahyo Sukarnito, as reported by antaranews.com.

According to preliminary reports, officer Abraham and two colleagues were dispatched to calm an intoxicated man causing trouble on Jalan PLN Baru street. As they approached, the suspect suddenly attacked from behind, striking Abraham twice. The officer’s colleagues attempted to help but were chased away before calling for backup. The victim was rushed to Agats General Hospital, where he was declared dead. Police have detained Ufi at the Asmat District Police headquarters for further questioning.
