inp.polri.go.id - North Sulawesi. The North Sulawesi Regional Police, in conjunction with the Sulawesi Forestry Law Enforcement Agency of Manado Region III, cracked down an illegal gold mining (PETI) in the Bogani Nani Wartabone National Park area, specifically on Mount Mobungayon, South Bolaang Mongondow Regency (Bolsel), on October 10–11, 2026.

The joint operation targeted two mining sites: Lower Mobungayon and Upper Mobungayon.

At the Lower Mobungayon site, officers discovered 72 tents, 13 water pumps (alkon), seven large drums, eight mining pits, several pieces of mining material processing equipment, two generators, and various other equipment. Three individuals suspected of being involved in the mining activities reportedly fled during the operation.

Meanwhile, at the Upper Mobungayon site, officers discovered six tents, 12 large drums, two generators, three processing tanks, and seven mining pits. Officers also found 42 logs and 30 planks of felled wood, as well as several pieces of equipment used in mining activities.

During the operation, officers destroyed a number of equipment used for the illegal mining, including the mining pits.

The acting Head of North Sulawesi Regional Police Public Relations, Senior Superintendent Johannes Kindangen says that the joint operation is part of their actions against illegal mining in conservation areas that must be preserved.

"This enforcement action demonstrates the commitment of the North Sulawesi Regional Police and related agencies to crack down on illegal mining activities, particularly in national park areas. Besides violating legal provisions, such activities have the potential to harm the forest and its inhabitants," he said.

He emphasized that cooperation between the police and forestry agencies is necessary to prevent illegal mining activities and preserve the environment. The public is also urged to refrain from mining without permits and to immediately report any similar activities to the authorities.
