inp.polri.go.id - Jambi. Personnel from Unit III, Sub-Directorate IV, Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation of the Jambi Regional Police, along with joint units, conducted a patrol to control illegal gold mining in the UNESCO Global Geopark area in Merangin Regency.
"The control of illegal gold mining in the Geopark area was led directly by the Regent of Merangin, Muhammad Syukur, and joint personnel," said the Director of Special Criminal Investigation of the Jambi Regional Police.
RegenSyukur emphasized the local government's full support for the control of illegal gold mining.
"We hope there will be no more illegal mining activity in the UNESCO Global Geopark area. The entire area must be sterilized, with no further access to the mining site. The main goal of this activity is to preserve the environment and protect the Geopark area," he said as reported by Antara Jambi, Friday (8/7/2026).
Meanwhile, the police instructed all personnel to prioritize safety and maintain communication given the remote location with limited network connectivity.
The team will conduct sweeps at points suspected of still having mining activity to carry out clean-up and clean-up operations according to procedures.
During the riverbank sweep, the team discovered four rafts suspected of being used for artisanal mining using suction or compressor machines in the Muara Karing area. However, the workers were not present at the site.
Officers did not find any mining activity using heavy equipment such as excavators. They found only traces of mining activities using small rafts.
Evidence seized included three compressors, two generators and trays, six carpets, four blue hoses, water hoses, and eight lengths of rope.
In addition to the clean-up operation, personnel also communicated with the surrounding community. Residents are urged not to be involved in or support illegal artisanal mining activities in any form.
Officials also emphasized the threat of criminal penalties for perpetrators, equipment providers, and parties facilitating illegal mining (PETI), and urged the public to maintain public order and security and support government and police efforts to enforce the law.
