inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Sidenreng Rappang (Sidrap) Sub-regional Police, along with the B Pioneer Battalion of the South Sulawesi Regional Police Mobile Brigade Unit, deployed Armored Water Cannon (AWC) vehicles to help supply water to drought-affected agricultural land in Sidenreng Rappang (Sidrap) Regency.

The drought, caused by a prolonged dry season that has lasted for approximately one and a half months, threatens approximately 1,300 hectares of rice fields in Kanie Village, Maritengngae District. Dry irrigation channels and the inability of people's wells to supply water threaten the rice crop, with the harvest still estimated to be about a month away.

On Sunday, August 9, 2026, Sidrap Sub-regional Police Chief, Superintendent Indra Waspada Yuda, personally assisted in irrigating the rice fields. Water distribution resumed on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, in Aka-Akae Village, Watang Sidenreng District, on the third day of the aid program.

In a single distribution, two AWC units carried approximately 10,000 liters of water to be distributed directly to rice fields in need. Indra stated that they will continue to strive to be present and provide benefits to the community, especially to help farmers facing drought.

Meanwhile, Commander of the B Pioneer Battalion of the South Sulawesi Regional Police Mobile Brigade Corps, Police Assistant Superintendent Ramli, stated that the deployment of the AWCs demonstrates their concern for the community and farmers in need of water supplies.

This activity is a collaboration between cross-sector parties. The AWC vehicles will remain on standby for the next few weeks, distributing water periodically to help meet the needs of rice crops until harvest time.
