The Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla) evacuated  the Indonesian-flagged KM Alexindo 8 that suffered a fire incident in the waters of Batuampar, Batam, Riau Islands, utilizing KN Sea Snake-405 and Catamaran 508 vessels. One person sustained minor burns and no fatalities reported in the fire. Bakamla's Public Relations official, Yuhanes Antara, said that Catamaran 508 was conducting a Guard Patrol around the Singapore Strait when it received information from the Vessel Traffic Service about a fire incident on KM Alexindo 8 at 2.30 pm. Based on the information provided by the captain of KM Alexindo 8, Joko Sampir, the fire occurred due to an electrical short circuit in the kitchen, immediately noticed by the ship's cook, antaranews.com reported. "Upon seeing this, the cook immediately shouted 'fire,' and all crew members grabbed fire extinguishers. However, because the fire spread too quickly, the crew could not contain it," said Yuhanes. In response, the chief engineer shut down the generator engine and closed the engine room door to allow crew members to evacuate the ship. "The ship's captain immediately contacted the nearest vessel, Catamaran 508. Upon learning of the incident, Bakamla promptly proceeded to the coordinates to evacuate the ship," Yuhanes said. He said that the firefighting was conducted by Bakamla's KN Sea Snake-405, the Indonesian Navy's KRI Bubara-868, and TB Megamas Sky.
