The investigators from the Balangan Sub-regional Police in South Kalimantan have charged a man, identified as MH (21), as the suspect involved in the embezzlement of honorarium for polling station organizing group (KPPS) amounting Rp 115 million in Batu Piring sub-district.
Balangan Police Chief Superintendent Riza Muttaqin said that the suspect is currently under embezzlement charges but may face multiple charges, antaranews.com reported.
"The suspect is charged under the Criminal Code on embezzlement with a maximum sentence of 5 years imprisonment," he said.
Chief Rizaa said that they have yet to charge the suspect with additional offenses related to online gambling, even though the suspect has been found involved in online slot gambling.
Balangan Police arrested the suspect in nearby Tabalong in less than 24 hours after receiving reports on Friday.
"We found that the suspect used eight accounts for online gambling transactions totaling Rp78.6 million, as well as other expenses for the Michat application amounting to Rp4.5 million," said Chief Riza.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief of Balangan Police, Senior Inspector Muhammad Irfan, said that the investigators continued to explore the possibility of applying charges related to gambling against the suspect.
