Inp.polri.go.id - Denpasar. The Denpasar Immigration Office in Bali has deported an Egyptian national for failing to pay a fine for overstaying his residence permit. The Head of the Denpasar Immigration Detention Centre, Gede Dudy Duwita, said on Wednesday  (17/1/2024) that the Egyptian, identified by his initials MMKE, was temporarily detained in the Centre after being transferred from the Denpasar Immigration Office. "He could not pay his fine of Rp1 million per day for overstaying in Indonesia," he explained. Duwita noted that the Egyptian arrived in Indonesia via Bali's I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport on 18 November 2023 with a Visa on Arrival that expired on 17 December 2023, antaranews.com reported. Subsequently, on 8 January 2024, local residents in the Abiansemal area filed a complaint about a foreigner was stranded on the side of the road to the police.  The Denpasar Immigration Department eventually found that his residence permit had expired for 23 days. The 43-year-old man was then deported to Cairo, Egypt, viaI Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, after his brother paying the fine. Duwita reminded that foreigners in Indonesia with an expired residence permit for more than 60 days are subject to deportation and detention. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
