Inp.polri.go.id - Denpasar. The Bali Regional Police uncovered 56 cases of thuggery during an eight-day special operation, targeting activities like extortion, illegal parking, and robbery.
All 56 suspects are now in custody awaiting prosecution.
“Despite the number, it shows Bali remains very safe and secure from thuggery,” said Bali Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Ariasandy on Friday (16/5/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com,
He credited community awareness, the active role of Pecalang (traditional Balinese security), and strong collaboration between the police, military, and local stakeholders for maintaining public safety.
The operation, codenamed Operation Pekat Agung 2025, deployed 715 personnel and focused on crimes seen as barriers to investment. Authorities view tackling street-level crime as vital to preserving Bali’s reputation as a safe destination for tourism and business.
