Inp.polri.go.id - Batam. The Navy, the Riau Islands Regional Police, Customs, and the National Narcotics Agency jointly are investigating the smuggling of 1.9 tons of cocaine and methamphetamine worth around Rp 7 trillion intercepted off the coast of Karimun, Riau Islands.
“This case is under investigation. We’re working closely to uncover the origins and intended destination,” said Rear Admiral Fauzi, the Commander of Belawan Fleet Command I, on Friday (16/5/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
The drugs — 1.2 tons of cocaine and 705 kg of meth — were found on a Thai-flagged fishing vessel, Aungtoetoe 99, during a routine patrol. The boat, lacking fish or fishing gear, raised suspicion, prompting a full inspection by the Fleet One Quick Response team.
Officers discovered 95 suspicious sacks filled with drugs packaged in red and green Chinese tea boxes. Five crew members — one Thai and four Myanmar nationals — were arrested without valid documents.
