Inp.polri.go.id - Bandung. West Java Regional Police said the violent protests in Bandung from 29 August to 1 September 2025 were funded by international groups.
“There was money coming in and out, tens of millions of rupiah from several foreign sources. These names are aliases,” West Java Police Chief inspector General Rudi Setiawan told reporters Tuesday (16/9/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
He explained that suspects first had to carry out vandalism and upload footage online to gain recognition from these international networks. Only after confirming alignment did funds transfer, often via PayPal or digital wallets. Following funding, the suspects recruited students and youth to join the unrest, which included arson and destruction of public and government property.
Authorities have identified 42 suspects and are coordinating with other regional police to determine whether the Bandung riots are linked to similar incidents elsewhere.
West Java Police continues to trace the money flow and investigate the masterminds behind the orchestrated violence.
